Tifl Case Study

Tifl & its Goals
About Tifl

Tifl is a child healthcare app that assists parents in taking care of their child by tracking their health records and upcoming appointments. The word Tifl is an arabic word that means Child.

Project Details

Project duration:

October 2023 to November 2023

The problem:

The mothers especially housewives had a hard time keeping track of appointments and health records while taking care of the household.

The goal:

Helping Mothers stay up to date with their child's health by informing them about upcoming health checkups as well as keeping track of all previous health records so that it can be made easier to access.

My role:

UX designer designing a website for Tifl from conception to delivery.

Responsibilities:

Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.

Understanding The User
User research: summary

I conducted several interviews and use empathy map to understand the users I am designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research were individuals who were mothers or parents to newborn kids

This group confirmed the initial assumptions about Tifl but the research conducted also revealed that not having a way to track and set reminders did not help the parents to efficiently take care of their child’s health while keeping up with other tasks.

User research: pain points

1. No easy way of tracking a child’s health record and keeping up with it.

2. No easy of accessing old health records.

3. Mothers especially housewife with not so much of technological knowledge find it overwhelming to use mobile to keep track.

4. Easy and simple way to add and edit health records.

Persona: Shameen

Problem statement:

Shameen is a Housewife and a mother who needs an app to assist her taking care of her newborn health

Because it's a lot of work for her to keep track of everything.

User Journey Map

User journey revealed How Tifl can be useful to the mothers as well as the parents to improve their overall experience and quality of their time with their new born.

Starting The Design
Paper Wireframes

Paper wireframes allows to get on with ideas and allows enough space for experimentation with efficiency. I initially draw multiple wireframes on paper to get to the one that really serves the purpose.

Digital Wireframes

Initially I added the “add appointment” function to a different screen but later during usability study i found that it has to be easily accessible so that user can add upcoming appointments easily.

When i started working on tifl it was pretty clear to me that maintaining and accessing health records in integral process in taking care of a newborn and it was revealed in the usability study as well, so i've designed the page keeping that in mind.

Low Fidelity Prototype

Check out the low fidelity prototype of Tifl below:

Usability study: findings

3. Frustrated with the process.

3. The process was fairly easy but still could be improved.

Refining The Design

High Fidelity Prototype

After getting insights from usability study i was ready with this high fidelity prototype. Check this out :

Accessibility Consideration

2. The Colour contract will help everyone have a better legibility and accurate view of the app. It complies with people having colour blindness.

3. The animations and their speed were kept as much user friendly as possible so as to not cause our users discomfort.

Going Forward
Take Aways
Impact:
Tifl helps parents especially mothers be better at their roles by assisting them so that they can care for themselves and their child without being overwhelmed. The study i conducted after finalising design revealed to me that it will be useful and it can make things efficient for parents when taking care of their child.
What I learned:
learnt a lot while designing UI UX  for the Tifl app. I had to conduct usability study on Mothers and parents to understand their problem and create this app for social good. While creating this app for social good helped me see the hardships that parents and especially mothers go through and how overwhelming it is to do a task as simple as remembering dates or keeping things ready in advanced for a child. There is a lot that goes on and i wish this app can help as many people as possible.
Next Steps
1. Conduct more usability study in order to learn how much more the user experience can be improved and understand what changes are required to do so.

2. Add more accessibility features to provide much better experience to overall users. Also identifying areas where accessibility is lacking and is required.

3. Conduct more user research to identify new areas of need.
